Beginning on 1st November, the peak time winter “Triad Season” charges can have a significant effect on your #energy bills. Triad charges are determined every year between November and February, calculated from the three highest half hour settlement periods on weekdays between 4pm-6pm.

At this point, industrial demand meets with residential demand which in turn creates the highest point of demand upon the countries transmission system. These charges are used to work out your TNUoS (transmission network use of system) charges which appear on your invoices for half hourly meters.

The charges are there to help upkeep the demand of energy during these peak periods and can represent up to 10% of your total energy bill – in extreme scenarios, they can be double that.

Not using as much #energy during triad periods will help to reduce these TNuos costs. You can set up a triad alert service which can help you identify when a triad period is likely to occur. At this point it’s possible to reduce your energy consumption in order to help reduce costs.
