Horsforth Brewery began as a small garage project in West Yorkshire and quickly developed into a respected independent brewery with its own taproom. Founded by Mark Costello, the business is built on quality, community and responsible growth.

Energy is, of course, essential for brewing, refrigeration and distribution. As the brewery expanded into a new high street site, securing the right supply from the outset was critical.

Sustainability was a clear priority, but so was cost control during a period of uncertainty for hospitality businesses.

As a new business we pride ourselves on offering a top quality product at the most competitive price. By fixing in a 3 year contract, we’ve not been affected by the recent surge in energy prices, especially with having an electric van, giving us real peace of mind in today’s climate.

Market volatility threatened cost certainty during a critical growth phase

Launching and scaling during a volatile market created pressure around future costs. Energy prices were unpredictable and long-term cost planning was difficult.

The brewery wanted renewable electricity at a competitive rate, along with practical support during site setup. As a growing independent business, they needed up-to-date advice and a direct contact who would respond quickly if issues arose.

Energy had to be stable and aligned with their values and help them keep delivering the beverages their customers had come to love.

Three-year fixed renewable tariff secured ahead of rising prices

UGP worked closely with the brewery during the move into their new premises. When early issues arose locating the meter, we attended site to resolve them and keep progress on track.

A three-year fixed renewable tariff was secured ahead of wider market increases, locking in pricing and providing certainty over costs.

The onboarding process was handled end-to-end, giving the brewery a clear structure from day one and a named account manager for ongoing support.

UGP secured us a competitive fixed rate at a time when the market felt uncertain. Knowing our costs are locked in for three years has given us confidence as we’ve expanded. The fact that the supply is fully renewable aligns with how we want to run the brewery, and having one direct contact who responds quickly has made the whole process so much simpler.

Price stability protected margins while reducing carbon impact

Horsforth Brewery now operates on one hundred percent renewable electricity, reducing carbon emissions by 8 tonnes each year.

The fixed contract protected the business from subsequent price spikes, delivering stability during a challenging period for the sector.

Energy is managed simply, with direct access to advice and fast resolution of queries as the business continues to grow.

By securing a fixed renewable tariff early, Horsforth Brewery gained cost certainty and environmental credibility in one move.

Energy now supports their growth plans, providing stability and service that match the ambition behind the brand.
